Happiness, hit her like a train on a track

Train Station
Coming towards her, stuck still no turning back

Studio
She hid around corners and she hid under beds

Train Station
She killed it with kisses and from it she fled

Train Station
With every bubble she sank with a drink

Studio
And washed it away down the kitchen sink

Train Station
The dog days are over

On Train
The dog days are done

Outside
The horses are coming so you better run

Studio
Run fast for your mother run fast for your father

Outside
Run for your children for your sisters and brothers

Outside
Leave all your love and your longing behind you

Outside
Leave all your love and your longing behind you
Outside
Can't carry it with you if you want to survive

Outside
The dog days are over

Countryside
The dog days are done

Path
Can't you hear the horses

Studio
'Cause here they come

Studio
And I never wanted anything from you

Countryside
Except everything you had

Countryside
And what was left after that too, oh.

Studio
And what was left after that too, oh.

Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back

Village
Struck from a great height

Village
By someone who should know better than that

The dog days are over

Woods
The dog days are done

22: Animatic of My Video

This is the animatic of my video and helps you to see what I hope my video will end up looking like. Some of the shots may be different as well as the angles but the animatic gives me a visual plan and outline to follow. Some of the scenes will also contain more than the one angle I have displayed in the animatic however the general idea for my video is presented. I hope to mainly stick to this plan but it will be necessary when filming to change certain aspects depending on the ability to take the shot.

21: Storyboard of Five Sections

1. Landscape
The first section I will have running throughout my video is landscape. This will be shots that are used to establish the different settings and scene for the other shots. Even though this will involve me filming in natural light I am going to use a filter in order to make all the clips have a similar colour tone.
 2: Projector Close-Ups
A very effective and cheap way to use lighting and combine it with close-up shots is the use of a projector. I am going to use a projector for most of the lip-syncing shots while still keeping the shots interesting. Projected onto the wall will be my own landscape clips and other clips of the characters who are going to play the family members.
 3. Running
I want running across the screen to be a key theme and this will create the idea of a journey, This will also help to tie into the lyrics of song and explain the way that the protagonist will reach her final destination.
 4. Train Journey
The train journey will allow for me close-up shots and will help to tie in the landscape shots. My music video is all about a journey and reaching the final destination both physically and mentally.
 5. Country to City - Final Destination
My final section is about the transition of the protagonist from the countryside to the big city. I am also going to get my character to grow up when she enters the city. This will be possible by getting somebody else to play the protagonist when she is older.

20: Story Plan

The idea for my music video is to have a mixture between the narrative and intertwining the up-close lip-syncing shots. I want my narrative to be about the main character growing up. The lyric ‘run fast’ is going to be the basis for my video with the narrative showing a journey of somebody running. I want my narrative to be mainly focused in a natural landscape with most of the shots being outdoors. The close-ups and lip-syncing scenes will be a mixture of outdoor shots and up-close studio shots. When editing and filming my video I want to use quick cuts and match on action. The video shall be fast paced and the cuts shall match the rhythm of the song.

The main actor shall be seen interacting with a multitude of other characters including the ‘mother’, ‘father’, ‘sister’ and ‘brother’, much like the lyrics of the song. I also want to intertwine short and concise scenic shots to help establish the scene. Time-lapse, reverse shots and multiple angles shall be used to effectively express the journey of the singer. The video will be based in the countryside with a village feel. This location allows for amazing shots in the natural environment, which will help to guide my story. I want my video to end with the singer having run away from the countryside and entering the city. This will be done in an almost magical way with a match on action. The singer will go through a bush and will walk into a city landscape. I believe this will be a good ending to my video.

My video should attract my target audience as well as the wider public by it being very relatable. The video will show a teenager interacting with other people and enjoying the outdoors. The costumes and alternative filters and camera shots will keep the leading edge interested. By contrasting the natural, outdoor shots with the studio close-ups including the use of a projector shows the experimental visions of the video.

For this video I think the most important thing will be to have a variation of shots that move at a fast pace to keep the audience interested. By having multiple different settings that the shots are filmed in throughout the video you can continually switch to different shots. This will keep the audience interested as there will be constant change. I am going to use 4 or 5 main settings throughout the video that will be scattered within. This means that no only will there be fast cuts and multiple shots but the setting will always be interesting and varied. Although the main narrative will run throughout and makes sure the video still has a consistent storyline. The other settings and shots will just interpret the narrative at certain points.

In order for my video to stay in-fitting with the indie-pop genre I want to explore different filters I can apply to my shots and the experimental lighting I can use. By using outdoor lighting and a projector this automatically varies and experiments the lighting. My costumes for the main character will be alternative and similar to the creative leading edge. However by the end of the video when she enters the big city she will be seen in urban and city-chic clothing to show her transition.
The over-all aim that I hope the video will have on the audience is to effectively present it's message. The main singer is saying goodbye to those she loves and leaving her bad times behind. When she enters the city at the end it shows her pursuing her dreams. This video should hopefully come across as motivational and should represent an aspirant member of leading edge chasing their dreams.

19: Key Elements in Order to Conform to My Video

Conventions of music video in relation to indie-pop:

Mis En Scene

The location for my video is important, in order to keep an audience interested it is a good idea to have more than one location within the video. In order to meet the convention of an indie video I am going to have one of my setting in the outdoors. I am them going to have one setting indoors that will mainly be for the close-ups of the artist. This is important as often within indie-pop video there is a storyline and the protagonist is usually the artist. Close-ups the artist will also be good to get a clear view of the lip-syncing.
The costumes I will have will be in-fitting with young and alternative youth, this will further attract my target audience. For the storyline there may be other characters who will where the clothes that fit their role. For example there may be a mother/daughter/son, they will where the conventional clothes of a nuclear family.

Cinematography

The shot types, camera movements and angles all have to attract my target audience and conform to the indie-pop genre. My target audience, the leading edge are all about exploring and experimenting with new things. I want to reflect this within my filming techniques. I want to use filters and interesting angles to entice my audience and keep them interested. By using multiple shots and consistently cutting on the beat my video will run smoothly and so will be enjoyable to watch.

Lighting

The lighting used within my video will be very important at making sure my video looks presentable. For the outdoor scenes I want to be able to use natural light and will have to experiment to see what the best way is to get the correct clarity. When inside I also want to experiment with lighting through the use of a projector and the multiple lighting rigs that are on offer. I believe that this will further interest my audience and create an alternative and hopefully experimental way of presenting my video.

Sound

The sound for my video will clearly be the soundtrack of 'Dog Days Are Over'.  At the moment I don't want to include a introductory scene or ending scene with actual speech. The most important part of sound is that my lip-syncing look credible and that my music matches the video that I am creating.

Editing
In order to attract the leading edge I a must be experimental and creative in the editing process. I once heard that editing is 70% of the importance when creating a good video and I agree with this. If the editing is not smooth and in-sync with the beat and rhythm of the song the video will not be enjoyable. Editing can transform and help to improve a video as long as it is done in an interesting and professional way.

18: Production and Exhibition Institutions

Florence + The Machine at the beginning of her career when she released the first music video for 'Dog Days Are Over'. This meant that she didn't have an actual producer and it involved her dad using his camera to film and using her friends and family as the actors. Florence then posted the video to YouTube. YouTube would be seen as the first distributor of this music video and later it was followed up by both Vimeo and MTV. This proves just how independent the making of this music video was and how many indie artists produce their music videos by themselves.

Most of the production companies I have researched don't seem as though a video for 'Dpg Days Are `over' would fit in. Both London Alley and Video Ink are very good and popular production companies that have the likes of Ariana Grande and The 1975 producing several of their music videos through them.

The accessibility to the internet now and the ability for artists to produce their own videos is amazing. This is the way I believe my music video would be produced. The independence and ability to be in control of the production of the video is something I believe I could use to my advantage.

The distribution of my music video would obviously be aimed at free upload series such as YouTube and Vimeo.

These two outlets would allow me to distribute my music video for free and share it with my target audience. The power of online sharing means that it is readily averrable to a much wider audience than in the past would have been possible. Depending on how well revived on these platforms my music video became it may then later be distributed to the likes of MTV.

Since my music video is indie pop and rather alternative I believe that it has a rather niche market. This means that my music video may not be aimed at the masses, not all the videos are meant to be viewed by all but rather enjoyed by those who appreciate it. I believe this is what my music video will be like.

Florence + The Machine is singed to Island Records, which is owned by Universal. They produced her later video that she created after she had gained some following and had the financial ability to create a higher quality video. They also produce videos for the likes of Catfish and The Bottlemen, Calvin Harris and The Weeknd. This is avery varied mix of artists with multiple genres and levels of following.  If I had to choose a production company for my video it would probably be Island Records.
They are very good at producing a variation of videos and their access to multiple different directors and teams of collaborators allows for a lot of different opportunities. If I had the financial backing and ability to work with Island Records I would. When making my own video I can keep in mind the multiple techniques and collaborates they use to create their music videos. The good thing about being an indie pop artist is that it usually gives you the ability to experiment when making your video.
